The Skerkavich Family
When a work-related injury affected the Skerkavich family, their faith was tested and their resolve was strengthened. “We wanted to keep our three children in Catholic school - that was important to us,” explains Mrs. Christine Skerkavich. Their oldest daughter, Madison, recently won a $2,500 Bishop’s Scholarship for Excellence from the Catholic Education Endowment Trust (CEET). Now a junior at CCC, Maddy’s winning essay was one of just six at the high school level throughout the Diocese of Cleveland.
As Maddy’s essay relates, “I am thankful for the scholarships that I’ve received so far to keep me in school, the many people who leave a lasting impression on our lives from day to day, and the spiritual gifts from God that I receive, as well.” She adds candidly, “It’s a struggle for everyone to make our Catholic educations work.”
