The Central Catholic Service Scholarship Program-SSP
The Service Scholarship Program provides scholarship money to enrolled students who participate in approved community service projects. The Service Scholarship Program (“SSP”) couples academic excellence with community service in partnership with the many superb agencies of the Slavic Village neighborhood. The program began in November 2007 with funds provided by the school’s neighbor, the Third Federal Foundation. During the 2007-2008 school year the SSP awarded more than $300,000 in tuition credit to Central Catholic families.
In order to qualify for funding, students have to:
complete the enrollment form available in the school office
be currently enrolled and have a PSAS application on file;
maintain a 1.5 GPA with a strong record in conduct and effort
perform service hours during the school year at an approved agency or program in the Slavic Village neighborhood as coordinated through the Central Catholic campus ministry office;
improve their overall grade point average by a minimum of .25 per year that the student is in the program, positioning the student for increased scholarship opportunities for college.
All service hours will be performed in the Slavic Village area, the neighborhood surrounding the school, and will be coordinated through the school. Students receive notice of available service opportunities through school announcements, bulletin board postings, the monthly family newsletter, as well as the Community Service link on the website's Main Menu.
Students and parents/guardians receive $10 per hour in tuition credit for work on approved community service projects, up to a maximum of $1500 per year for each student account. Contact: Nancy VanSwol Schade, (216)441-4700, ext. 324.
