Word Processing
Grade Level: 9 - Required
Students develop basic keyboarding knowledge, skills, and techniques in the control of letters, figures, symbols, and special keys during the first 9 weeks of the course. Basic keyboarding knowledge, skills, and techniques are then reinforced. In addition, students develop formatting, editing, and proofreading skills necessary for preparing personal and business letters, reports, tables, newsletters, and various business forms using the Microsoft Word program. Origins of the Internet are learned as well as how to connect to the Internet, use a web browser and access information on the World Wide Web.
Economics for Consumers
Grade Level: 10 - Business/Finance Program
One semester course in which students learn to make wise financial decisions in their personal lives and in business situations. Learn the origins of money, how the global economy works, and the role of consumers in the economy, learn to budget, maintain a checking account, the basic aspects of saving, investing and credit, and explore taxes and withholding.
Microsoft Word
Grade Level: 12 - Elective
This course is designed to develop technical skill using the Microsoft Word Program. Basic keyboarding knowledge, skills, and techniques are reinforced. In addition, students develop formatting, editing, and proofreading skills necessary for preparing personal and business letters, reports, memos, tables, and various business forms. All skills are developed within the framework of the Microsoft Word computer program.
Applied Business Mathematics
Grade Level: 11, 12 - Elective (Guidance Counselor approval)
This course is designed to help students develop competency in mathematics for business use as well as personal finance. Students solve a variety of business problems and demonstrate how widely arithmetic is used in the business world. Students will also be introduced to business content and terminology that they will study in greater detail in advanced business classes. This course will cover such topics as payroll, borrowing money, and insurance.
Personal Finance
Grade Level: 11 - Business/Finance Program
This course informs students of their financial responsibilities as citizens, students, family members, consumers, and active participants in the business world. Discover new ways to maximize earning potential, develop strategies for managing resources, explore skills for the wise use of credit and ways of investing money.
Accounting
Grade Level: 11, 12 - Elective
This course emphasizes basic accounting principles, concepts, and procedures needed to compete successfully in today's work force. Students learn how to start an accounting system, analyze transactions into debit and credit parts, and journalize and post business transactions. Students also gain experience in working with various cash control systems involving accounts payable and accounts receivable. Emphasis is also placed on gaining hands-on experience using computers to work on specialized accounting activities involving three cycles--proprietorship, partnership, and corporation.
Web-Site Design
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 - Elective
This course is an introductory course on web-site design open to students in grade 10, 11, 12 who have met course prerequisite. Students will discuss and research what makes a good web-site, and then use HTML code to create a personal web-site which contains text, graphics, animations, links, tables, forms and embedded objects. Students will learn how to upload their web-sites.
Microsoft Office 2000 - 1
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 - Elective
This course offers a practical approach to Microsoft Office 2000 for Windows 2000 Professional. The basics in Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint are covered through a variety of hands-on simulations and work-related projects and activities. Principles involved in personal and career development along with interviewing skills are also emphasized.
Microsoft Office 2000 - 2
Grade Level: 11, 12 - Elective
This course offers advanced proficiency training in Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint. Upon completion of the course, students may become certified as a professional or expert Microsoft Office User (MOUS certification). This certification will help the student become more competitive in entering the business world.
Business Law
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 - Elective
Gives students a general understanding of how business law affects us as citizens, workers, and consumers. It offers a basic understanding of the legal rights, responsibilities, and relationships affecting each of us personally and professionally.
Banking and Financial Systems
Grade Level: 12 - Business/Finance Program
Students will gain an overview of banking and financial services including career opportunities. It presents a survey of the principles and practices of banking and credit in the United States. This course will cover the history of banking and role it plays in the economy today while also showing them how money is created, loan functions, international banking, and much more.
Investing in Your Future
Grade Level: 12 - Business/Finance Program
The course will teach students a step-by-step method of approaching smart saving and investing. Topics include everything from certificates of deposit to mutual funds and stocks.
