The Science department organized its curricula on five areas: stability, systems, patterns of change, complexity and scale models. The department strives to integrate science into the whole of the students' education, hopefully stimulating curiousity and wonder at the order of the natural world.
To graduate, students need to have three science courses and one lab - Biology.
Some students participate in events related to Robotics, and there are special field trips for Anatomy and Biology.
The Science department hopes to have honors Chemistry and Physics in the future.
Classes Offered
Physical Science 1DL

Honors Biology
Grade Level: 10: - Elective, Weighted Course Prerequisite: Must be in the top 20% of class or recommended by department
In addition to following the course of study for biology, an emphasis on the correlation between math and science is stressed.
Integrated Science
Grade Level: 11,12 - Elective
This course is designed to give students the opportunity to explore in greater depth the areas of physical science. The course is composed of units in the areas of ecology, environmental issues, science technology, oceanography, space and weather.
Chemistry
Grade Level: 11,12 - Elective, Weighted Course Concurrent or Prerequisite: Algebra 2
This course builds and further develops laboratory skills through experimentation and is designed for students interested in science-oriented and/or medical careers. Basic chemical structures, chemical laws and reactions are among the topics covered and explored.
Physics
Grade Level: 12 - Elective, Weighted Course Prerequisite: Chemistry
This course is an investigation of the various interactions of matter and energy. Specific areas of study include laws of motion, mechanics, light, sound, magnetism, electricity and nuclear physics.
Anatomy & Physiology
Grade Level: 12 - Elective, Weighted Course Concurrent or Prerequisite: Algebra 2
This is a laboratory-based course that deals with an investigation of the structure and function of body parts, their forms, and arrangements. Major emphasis will be placed on the organization and composition of the human body and the impact of diseases on the various body systems. Observation, experimentation, questioning, and problem-solving, through the use of technological equipment and other devices to gather data and to communicate findings are essential to learning facts and developing skills and competencies related to the study of this course.
Cleveland Central Catholic High School provides a comprehensive curricular program, offering a variety of course sequences which exceed state requirements. These offerings proved intellectual and cultural experiences for the college-bound and the career-oriented.
A program of studies is a sequence of classes that a student will usually take while at Cleveland Central Catholic High School. These programs consist of many required classes with some elective options. Programs or studies are designed to assist students in meeting their potential and in receiving more direction to course selection.
