Latest News – Covid Family Communication July 28, 2020

July 28, 2020

Dear Cleveland Central Catholic families,

In an effort to provide for the safety of our students and staff as we reopen our school in August, while maintaining a quality learning experience for our students, we wish to share with you more details for the re-opening plan as it stands TODAY.

For the safety and security of our faculty, staff, and students and to support student learning, we have developed a hybrid model of in-person and online instruction to focus on five core subjects paired with a period of structured teacher support to assist with the days of online learning.

Daily Schedule: Student schedules will be mailed home the week of August 10th

The bell schedule will consist of a seven period day (5 class periods, lunch, and a “student success” session which we are calling an “Ironman Way Period.”  Each class period will be 55 minutes long with the exception of period 1 which will have five additional minutes for announcements and for conducting school business.

For example, any student with the last name beginning with the letter A-D will be in school on Monday from 7:55am-2:15pm and will be home with remote learning the rest of the week.

Bell Schedule: 7:55am-2:15pm

First Day of School: Wednesday, August 26 – Wednesdays:  Students with last names beginning with L-R (136 students)

First Day of School: Thursday, August 27 – Thursdays:  Students with last names beginning with S-Z (112 students)

First Day of School: Monday, August 31 – Mondays:  Students with last names beginning with A-D (139 students)

First Day of School: Tuesday, September 1 – Tuesdays:  Students with last names beginning with E-K (136 students)

Fridays:  Students assigned for an additional day of in-person instruction.  – No classes on August 28
*If a student is assigned an additional day it will be noted on the schedule.

Students will follow their schedule on the day(s) they are assigned to be in attendance with COVID-19 protocols in place.

* We will pair siblings together on the same day(s), regardless of having the same last name – this will be noted on the schedule.

Online Only Option: We recognize there are high risk situations where students and/or families would be best served through the option of full online distance learning.  We are offering that option for the first semester.  Any student who participates in the full online distance learning would not participate in any extra-curricular activities or be present on campus at any time for the first semester.  To enroll in this option, please contact Sr. Erin at 216-641-2036.

Chromebooks: To support online learning each student will be issued a Chromebook for their use. Chromebooks will be distributed to the students on their first day of in-person education.  Chromebooks may be taken home for online instruction.

Uniforms: Students will be required to be in school uniform per the Student Handbook on the days they are present in school.

Face Coverings:  All faculty, staff and students will be required to wear face coverings when on campus. This also applies to parents/visitors who enter the building.  Each member of the school community will be given two (2) reusable masks on the first day of school.

Entrance to the school building: All students and visitors MUST enter the ATRIUM DOORS located at 67th and Baxter Ave. This is the main entrance to allow for proper screening and safety protocols.

Temperature Screenings:  All faculty, staff and students will comply with a temperature screening upon arrival to school.  Any community member with a temperature of 100.0F or higher will be sent to the isolation room until transportation can be arranged. Faculty, staff and students may not return to school until they have been fever free for 72 hours without medication intervention.

Increased Sanitation Measures:  To increase sanitation, we have purchased an electrostatic cleaning machine that will be used in conjunction with traditional cleaning measures. Additionally, hand sanitation stations will be in each classroom, the cafeteria, and main entry points of the school building. All touch points (i.e. desks/tables, door knobs, handrails) throughout the school building will be disinfected multiple times per day.

Social Distancing Measures: In order to maintain proper social distancing and allow for additional space between students, each classroom will have limited furniture to allow for desks to be spaced appropriately. Further, class sizes per classroom is being limited to under 12 students.

Breakfast / Lunch: Free breakfast and lunch will be served in the cafeteria.  Social distancing and sanitation measures will be enforced in this space.

Transportation: Cleveland Central Catholic will continue to offer transportation to and from school for those who sign up for this service.  Bus drivers will take the temperature of the student before they pull away from the bus stop.  If the student has a temperature of 100.0F or higher they will not be permitted to ride the bus to school. If you have signed up to ride the CCC bus, you will be notified of your route and pick up time the week of August 17th.

Locker Usage: Students will be assigned a school locker to place book bags and personal belongings throughout the school day.  Students will be spaced every 4th locker to provide for social distancing. Students are not permitted to carry book bags with them throughout the school day.

Field Trips:  There will be no field trips for the first semester.

End of the Day:  All students must depart from campus by 3:15pm every day to allow for sanitation protocols to be completed in preparation for the next school day.

Student Support:  Students will have access to online support with teachers for the three/four days they are learning remotely from home. More information will be shared on Google Classroom when school begins.  We know these are challenging times.  Any student or family who is in need of social, emotional or crisis support should contact Sr. Erin at 216-641-2036 for additional support and assistance.

Covid Family Communication – July 28, 2020

Dear Class of 2020 Graduates,

Over the last several months we have remained in regular communication with Cleveland Public Auditorium regarding our Graduation Ceremony that has been scheduled for July 31st.  This past week we have called several times to check in with our contact, without any return phone calls.  Please know Cleveland Public Auditorium has been excellent to work with and we recognize they are at the mercy of the City of Cleveland who holds the authority for Cleveland Public Auditorium to host events and outline protocol.  Our best guess, is they simply do not have any updates on the information we are seeking.

We earnestly wanted each of you to walk across the large stage with pomp & circumstance and have your family and friends give witness to your hard work and accomplishments.  Our hope was by choosing a late July date that the COVID-19 rate of infection would be less. However, that does not appear to be the case.  In light of all the variables and unknown factors at this time–we have decided to pursue an alternative route for you to be acknowledged and have your celebratory moment.

On July, 29th, 30th or 31st, any graduate who wishes will have the opportunity to attend an individually scheduled appointment to be granted their diploma by Sr. Allison Marie and Mr. Hyland in our chapel and have a professional picture taken.  We know this is not ideal, however it is an opportunity to capture and celebrate this important moment.

To participate please follow the process outlined below:

  1. Call 216-641-2036 to schedule an individual appointment. If there is no answer, leave a message and your call will be returned within 24 hours to confirm the appointment.
  2. The graduate may bring four (4) guests (elevator access is available).
  3. The wearing of cloth face coverings is required for the graduate and guests.
  4. The graduate and guests will enter the Atrium doors where temperatures will be taken and guests will be directed to the Chapel.
  5. All graduates are to wear the cap and gown that was provided in their graduation box.
  6. Once in the Chapel, Sister Allison Marie and Mr. Hyland will read the graduate’s name and ceremonially present them their diploma.
  7. A professional photographer will be there to take pictures.
  8. Families will have time to take their own pictures in the Chapel as well.
  9. Appointments will be in 20 minute increments, leaving time for a family to exit before the next one arrives.

In gratitude and peace,
Mr. Hyland, Sr. Allison Marie, Sr. Erin, Mr. Crawford and Mr. Duke

Graduation Update

July 16, 2020

Dear Cleveland Central Catholic families,

In an effort to provide for the safety of our students and staff as we reopen our school in August, while maintaining a quality learning experience for our students, we wish to share with you the re-opening plan as it stands TODAY.

For the safety and security of our faculty, staff, and students and to support student learning, we have developed a hybrid model of in-person and online instruction to focus on five core subjects paired with a period of structured teacher support to assist with the days of online learning.  While it is not optimal to limit in-person instruction to one or two days per week, it is essential in light of the current trend of virus transmission in Cuyahoga County and across the United States.  Consequently, it is our intention to use this model for the first semester of the 2020-2021 academic year.

Student schedules will be sent out in the mail on August 3, 2020.  The first day of school will be August 26, 2020.

Bell Schedule: 7:55am-2:15pm

Mondays:  Students with last names beginning with A-D (139 students)

Tuesdays:  Students with last names beginning with E-K (136 students)

Wednesdays:  Students with last names beginning with L-R (136 students)

Thursdays:  Students with last names beginning with S-Z (112 students)

Fridays:  Students assigned for an additional day of in-person instruction.

Students will follow their schedule on the day(s) they are assigned to be in attendance with COVID-19 protocols in place.
* we will pair siblings together on the same day(s), regardless of having the same last name

To support online learning each student will be issued a chromebook for their use. In addition we have the recommended cleaning/disinfecting protocols in place.  Student will be in class with fewer students while wearing cloth masks and maintaining social distancing.  Students will use hand sanitizer and disinfect their desks at the end of each class period.  In addition, temperatures will be checked for all members of the CCC community at the beginning of the school day. These are just a few of the practices and protocols we are putting in place as we prepare to return to school in August.  We will continue to communicate with you as the summer continues.

Thank you for your continued partnership on this educational journey.

In gratitude and peace,
Mr. Hyland, Sr. Allison Marie, Sr. Erin, Mr. Crawford and Mr. James

Family Communication July 16, 2020

July 6, 2020

Greetings Cleveland Central Catholic Community,

As we begin the month of July we want to share with you important information regarding the 2020-2021 academic year. Please know that we at Cleveland Central Catholic High School, in collaboration with the Diocese of Cleveland are working on plans to provide quality, faith-based education while living in a COVID-19 world. We acknowledge that much has happened over the last four months and we promise to remain faithful and committed to each of you and your families as we navigate the days ahead.

We know many of you have questions about school in the fall — what it will look like, and the protocols we will be putting in place for everyone’s well-being.  Providing quality, faith-based education while maintaining COVID-19 safety protocols is our highest priority.

Taking into consideration social distancing requirements, masks, and temperature checks along with the latest information from Governor DeWine and the recommendations of the Diocese of Cleveland we are planning to start school on August 26, 2020.  The plan is to have a combination of in-person classes and online instruction.  We will be implementing safety protocols and instruction modifications to remain in line with best practices for both quality education and safety.  To maintain social distancing requirements, students will be present in school on assigned days and will complete online instruction on the days they are not present in the school building.

As we read the signs of the times, we will adjust, adapt and continue to create a plan that will allow for the best educational opportunity for each student.  We are currently finalizing the safety protocols, transportation schedules, and instruction modifications for the upcoming school year.  We will update you throughout the summer with specifics on academic strategies, what a typical day will look like, etc. as those plans come together.

We welcome conversations with anyone who has concerns or questions.  Please reach out to any of us.

Thank you for your continued partnership.  Be assured of our prayers for you and your families.

June 5, 2020

Dear Class of 2020,

As you know, throughout the last several months we have had to cancel many in-person events due to COVID19.  We have been holding June 26th for a backup Prom date.  Unfortunately, in light of the continued social distancing restrictions, no dancing, no congregating, mask requirements, etc. and the COVID19 protocols we are unable to hold Prom at all in the coming months.  Therefore, Prom scheduled for June 26th is officially cancelled. We know this is very disappointing and we wish it could be different.  However, for everyone’s safety and well being we must cancel.

We continue to hold July 31st for an in-person Graduation at Cleveland Public Auditorium if, and when the social distancing restrictions are lifted.  We will continue to communicate throughout the next several months as we get closer to that time.

Thank you for your resilience, compassion and care for each other.  We are proud of each of you and will hold you all in prayer as you take your next steps.

Peace
Mr. Hyland, Sr. Allison Marie, Mr. Crawford, Mr. Duke, Sr. Erin and Mrs. Troxell

Family Communication April 28, 2020

Updated: Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Good Afternoon Cleveland Central Catholic Families,

Yesterday, Governor DeWine announced the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year will be completed through online distance learning.  Ohio joins many other states where faculty, staff and students will not return to the physical school building this year.  We know these measures unite all of us in doing our part to “flatten the curve” and slow the spread of COVID-19.

We are saddened that we will not be able to complete the school year in person.  We miss each of our students and all of the end-of-year milestones we are not able to celebrate together.  These are challenging times and we acknowledge that there are many feelings and thoughts about our present reality.  Cleveland Central Catholic High School remains committed to serving the emotional, academic, and spiritual needs of our school community.

Below you will find important information regarding the rest of the school year and end-of-year activities.  We will continue to communicate as this journey unfolds.

Online Learning:
We will continue the rest of the school year using Google Classroom to provide online distance learning. Assignments will be graded and entered into PowerSchool each Wednesday.  Students must earn a passing grade in order to earn credit towards graduation requirements.  Any student needing assistance should reach out to their teachers, guidance counselor or any member of staff who can offer support. Last day of online classes for freshmen, sophomores and juniors is June 3, 2020

End-of-Year Exams:  We will not be administering semester exams.  All assignments and academic work from the 3rd and 4th quarters will be calculated for the second semester grade.

April 21, 2020 Family Communication Update

Updated: Monday, April 20, 2020

Today, Governor DeWine announced the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year will be completed through online distance learning. Ohio joins many other states where faculty, staff and students will not return to the physical school building this year.

While we are not surprised about this continued precaution and care for the wellbeing of each other, we want to take some time reflect and craft a comprehensive plan for the best path forward.  Cleveland Central Catholic remains committed to serving the emotional, academic and spiritual needs of our school community.

In light of this development we want to share with you the new dates for Prom and Commencement.  While we do not know when, and if the social distancing orders will be lifted— we want you to mark your calendars for the following dates in the event we can gather to celebrate end of year events.

If Governor DeWine and Dr. Acton lift the social distancing orders please note the following date changes:

Prom: June 26, 2020

Commencement: July 31, 2020

Tomorrow, we will share more information about the ways we will move forward in the days ahead.

Let us support and pray for one another as we continue to offer our best selves to this moment in history.

In gratitude and peace,

Mr. Hyland, Sister Allison Marie, Mr. Crawford, Mr. Duke and Sister Erin

Good Evening Cleveland Central Catholic Families –

We pray you and your families had a blessed and healthy Easter and restful Easter Vacation. We continue to pray for all of you as we navigate these uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week we have concluded five weeks of emergency online distance learning. Below you will find important information as we continue to live out the days ahead. Please keep in mind we will continue with emergency online distance learning in accord with Governor DeWine’s stay at home order through May 1st.  We anticipate Governor DeWine and Dr. Acton will have more information for us this week.

A couple of updates as we look to the future:

Online Learning:
It is imperative that students are logging into Google Classroom each day and staying current with all assignments.  Grades will be given for all assignments.  Students must earn a passing grade in order to earn credit towards graduation requirements. Enclosed you will find a suggested schedule for any student that is feeling overwhelmed and needs a little help staying organized. May 1st will mark the midterm point of the 4th Quarter.

Transcripts:  Seniors, please contact your Guidance Counselor.

Voucher Completion: Any freshmen, sophomore or junior who has not completed the voucher application, you may drop off applications at school Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9am-Noon.  Remember you need the voucher application and a recent utility bill. For questions about vouchers, please contact Sr. Allison Marie at 440-549-0543.

Prom & End of Year Events:  With the current social distancing requirements and the “stay at home order” May 8th is no longer an option for Prom.  Our goal is to ensure we have Prom and Commencement when restrictions are lifted and we are allowed to gather again.  Once we secure the date—we will keep you apprised. In addition we are working on back up plans for Graduation in the event our current date of May 31 is not feasible.

Food and other community resources: Any family that is in need of community resources can access our directory at https://www.centralcatholichs.org/important-information-on-coronavirus/ or contact Sr. Erin at 216-393-7661 for further assistance.

These are uncertain times.  However, as women and men of faith, may we continue to hold each other in prayer as we navigate this journey together.  If you need assistance or have a question, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us.

Peace

Mr. Hyland, Sr. Allison Marie, Mr. Crawford, Mr. Duke, and Sr. Erin
